The 2017 South African Institute for Black Property Practitioners (SAIBPP) Annual Convention and Property Indaba took place from 2-3 August 2017. The first day of the event was dedicated to a full-day development site tour of Johannesburg, which commenced at Kgoro Central on 2 August (Wednesday).

The second day of the Indaba was held at the Houghton Golf Club in Johannesburg on 3 August (Thursday). On this day several speakers, who are key role players from both the private and public sector, took to the podium. The speakers’ line-up included Duma Gqubule, founder at KIO Advisory Services, real estate practitioner Mashilo Pitjeng who presented an ‘Analysis of the state of transformation and the new codes’ and Badisa Matshego, group executive: infrastructure asset management of Airports Company of South Africa (ACSA), tackled development opportunities around state-owned enterprises.

The conference was also graced by Minister of Public Works Nkosinathi Nhleko as well as Minister of Rural Development & Land Affairs Gugile Nkwinti who addressed ‘Rural development and land reform’. To top the list of politician that addressed delegates at the Property Indaba was ANC Treasurer-General Zweli Mkhize who underlined the fact that transformation of the country’s economy starts with the financial sector and that it was important that this transformation started addressing poverty, inequality and unemployment.
